FAQs about Tennis Excellence
Below is a list of some of our most common queries. If you have a question that isn’t listed below give us a call on 1300 424 544 and we’ll fill you in.
1. Trial Lessons
We do offer trial lessons for players ONLY when a class is not at full capacity already. Please call the office to arrange a trial.
We provide a wide range of coaching programs. Our coaches are fully qualified tennis coaching professionals trained to the highest level. All of our coaches are required to attend regular staff training and professional development sessions.
3. What should I bring along?
Comfortable enclosed sports shoes, a hat, water bottle and racquet. If you don't have your own racquet, we do have spares available to borrow.
The rules on tennis attire have been relaxed in recent years so “tennis-specific” attire is not necessary at our lessons.
4. How are groups determined?
After initially being enrolled in a class suitable for their age and skill level, students will be assessed by their coach and it may be suggested to move to a group that is more appropriate to their standard.
5. What is the class size ratio?
Class sizes vary depending on the program. Our HotShots programs have a maximum ratio of 1:4 for Red (age 4 -6) and 1:6 for all other HotShots programs.
6. When should I start?
Our programs are designed to allow students to commence learning from any point within the program. Our focus is to ensure each student is grouped with players of a similar age and skill level. We use the Tennis Australia endorsed Hotshots program to teach and grade students.
7. What happens if it rains or there is extreme heat?
Covid-19 Amendment - while Clubhouses remain closed due to the coronavirus we are not able to conduct indoor modified lessons. Rain affected lessons will be cancelled and players will be offered either 1) a make up alternative, or 2) a credit for future use, or 3) a 30min private lesson. You will be notified 60min before the lesson time if the lesson is cancelled. The lesson is running if you do not receive cancellation communications.
Hot Shots programs will run a modified program indoors in the event that it is too hot, or heavy rain.
For Squad programs in the event of rain, we encourage players to wear wet weather gear and be prepared to still train if courts are deemed fit for practice.
In the event a parent or player deems the weather conditions to be too extreme for safe participation in any program where possible, we will allow the player to arrange a make-up session in the same or similar program at a later date, in the current term or a day in the upcoming holiday clinics.

8. Other Make-ups
Due to our strict class size requirements, we do not offer make-up classes for casual absence or sickness. However, if you are absent from class for an extended period of time i.e. more than 2 weeks, please contact us to make alternate arrangements.

Just wanted to say thanks for a great tennis experience at Blue Gum over the holidays. My son Fraser (12) was booked in to attend the first week only, but enjoyed it so much that he wanted to play the second week of the holidays too. Great coach, excellent tuition and what an achievement - 10 mornings of tennis which beats computer games any day in my opinion! Very much appreciated. We have now booked another block of Term Tennis on a Saturday morning.
